Student team members of project "Pearl necklace of Holy Russia" visited Veliky Novgorod
The trip to Novgorod, held on 5-7 June 2019, was the final field event of the second stage of the international project of the Smolensk diocese youth development cultural-cognitive tourism "Pearl necklace of Holy Russia".
In Veliky Novgorod, as in other cities of the developed route, the project participants got acquainted with the shrines and sites have been collecting materials for the compilation of tourism case study of the city and participated in the filming of the video. Also, the presentation of the project in the Novgorod state University.
On 6 June, the day of the ascension, the project team participated in the divine Liturgy in the St. Sophia Cathedral, built in the middle of the XI century. A tour of the St. Sophia Cathedral and other monuments of Veliky Novgorod conducted a famous Russian archaeologist, the President of the Novgorod society of fans of an antiquity Sergey Troyanovsky. Then the participants visited the Novgorod Kremlin and learned about the history of the Monument to the 1000 anniversary of Russia. A meeting was held with the Deputy Director General of the Novgorod state United Museum-reserve Olga Konyukhova.
Also, the project team visited the Church of the Savior on Ilyina street is the only temple where frescoes of Theophanes the Greek. In the itinerary of the inspection was included the Church of the Saviour on Nereditsa and Rurik settlement. During the tour in the center of the restoration of monumental painting of Novgorod Museum-reserve, the project participants not only learned about the peculiarities of the restoration of temple frescoes, but were able to watch the painstaking work of the restorers.
On 8 June there was a visit to the University complex of the Novgorod state University in Antonovo and the presentation of the project.
